A BIG THANK YOU TO ALL OF THE FAMILIES THAT SENT IN ITEMS FOR OUR RAFFLE BASKET...I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE YOU ALL AT THE CARNIVAL MAY 6!
Weekly Update: APRIL 26- APRIL 30
We are getting back into the swing of things...hard to believe it's the 4th quarter, and these kiddos are nearly 3rd graders.
We had a great week: we had a cultural arts assembly where we learned about African Dance and we were visited by our guinea pig friends, Mistletoe & Russell. The students worked very hard to earn over 600 Dojo points as a class and earned a special art project and the pet visit. Encourage your child to continue the great behavior so we can finish second grade strong!

Curriculum News:
Mathematics:
We have been learning about 3 digit subtraction in our math class. The students are learning how to ungroup numbers and move them to other places. We have practiced the proof drawings method as well as using expanded notation. If you are having trouble understanding any of the methods I sent home a flier that had video links from WCPSS that will give you a better understanding. ( I only sent it home to my math students, so if you need one let me know).
Language Arts:
Thank you so much for providing your child with their book club novels. We began our book clubs this week and the students are enjoying it. They are participating in their groups and taking on the roles of illustrator, discussion director, clever connector, and word wizard.
Writing:
The students learned about being critics this week. We discussed all of the different types of critics, and I encouraged them not to be such negative critics of their dinners! They are learning how to compose opinion pieces and will being writing their own reviews, which will be shared at young author's day on May 26th.
Social Studies:
We are learning about conservation in social studies and will also be learning about maps in the upcoming weeks.
